FACTS ABOUT APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

Vinegar has been traced back as far as 5000 B.C.E. in Babylon where it was used for cooking, a medicine, a preservative and a tonic to promote health and wellness. It is still used in these ways today.

Organic, unfiltered apple cider vinegar contains a substance called the mother which consists of strands of proteins, enzymes and friendly bacteria that give the vinegar its cloudy appearance. Many believe the mother is responsible for most of its health benefits. Acetic acid is a primary active compound giving the vinegar its tangy taste and aroma. Cider vinegars contain around 5% acetic acid and researchers believe this acid is also responsible for its health benefits. While apple cider vinegar does not contain many vitamins and minerals it does contain amino acids and antioxidants. The mother contains small amounts of prebiotics, and probiotics – healthy bacteria that are good for gut health.

FACTS ABOUT CHERRIES

Cherries are considered a superfood, nutrient dense while low in calories. They help promote health by increasing immune function and decreasing susceptibility to disease.

Sweet cherries get their dark red colour from anthocyanins and are high in phenols – plant chemicals with antioxidant properties.

Cherries are well documented for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They are also a rich source of micronutrients such as vitamin C and minerals including potassium, phosphorous, calcium and magnesium.

Antioxidants protect against disease and fight free radicals which can cause cell damage and contribute to diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Cherries are said to help you to sleep better thanks to their high levels of melatonin. Their anti-inflammatory compounds and antioxidants can help soothe sore muscles and ease arthritic pain.
